Cookies are small text strings that the site sends to the user's device, where they are automatically stored to be retransmitted to the site itself at each access. Cookies allow the site to recognize the user's device and allow the user to navigate between pages, remembering expressed preferences and improving the user experience. They can also ensure that online advertisements displayed are more appropriate and relevant to users' interests
- directly from the platform owner and/or manager (so-called first-party cookies);
- from third parties other than the owner of the site visited by the user (so-called third-party cookies). Unless otherwise indicated, it should be noted that third-party cookies fall under the direct and exclusive responsibility of the same manager. Further information on privacy and their use can therefore be found directly on the platform of the respective operators.
Taking into account the indications of the Privacy Authority and the opinions issued at European level by the Working Group ex art. 29 (independent European working group, now replaced by the European Data Protection Board, so-called EDPB), Cookies can be traced back to the following categories
- Technical cookies;
- Analytical cookies;
- Profiling cookies

Technical (3)
Technical cookies are necessary to carry out the transmission of a communication and for the provision of the service requested by the user. They include:
- Session or navigation cookies: these are cookies that are not stored persistently on the user's terminal and are deleted when the browser is closed and are strictly limited to the transmission of session identifiers necessary to allow safe and efficient exploration of the site;
- Functionality cookies: they allow you to remember the site settings chosen by users, such as language or privacy preferences, in order to improve services and browsing experience.
With respect to these types of Cookies, it is not necessary to acquire the prior and informed consent of the user.

Analytical (1)
Analytical cookies, as recently observed by the Privacy Authority, can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of a service provided, for the design of a platform or to help measure its traffic.
Similarly, analytical cookies, if installed by third parties, do not require the collection of prior user consent where direct identification of the data subject is not possible (so-called single out), in order to avoid the use of direct and unique identifiers. In particular, such cookies must have the following characteristics: (i) the same cookie must be referable not only to one but to multiple devices, so as to create reasonable uncertainty about the computer identity of the subject who receives it (for example, through masking of appropriate portions of the IP address), (ii) the use of cookies must be limited exclusively to the production of aggregate statistics and such cookies can be used in relation to a single site or mobile application, so as not to allow tracking of the data subject's navigation using different applications or browsing on different platforms. Furthermore, it is clarified that third parties, who provide the web measurement service, cannot in any case combine the data, even thus minimized, with other processing (customer files or visit statistics to other sites, for example) or transmit them in turn to other third parties, under penalty of an unacceptable increase in user identification risks; except in the case where the production of statistics by them with minimized data concerns multiple domains, platforms or apps. On the other hand, user consent will be required for analytical cookies installed by third parties without guarantees aimed at minimizing the processing of data collected through the same cookies.

Profiling (13)
Profiling cookies are used to trace specific actions or recurring behavioral patterns in the use of the offered functionalities (patterns) to determined subjects, identified or identifiable in order to group the different profiles within homogeneous clusters of different sizes, so as to be able to modulate the service delivery in an increasingly personalized way, as well as to send targeted advertising messages, that is, in line with the preferences expressed by the user in the context of web browsing. The installation of profiling cookies and the consequent processing of the user's personal data are optional, therefore consent is required for the installation of this type of cookies.
Consent will also be required in relation to "mixed" cookies (i.e. installed and used for different purposes and which do not have a mere technical/analytical connotation).
